Where do you get your inspiration? How do you come up with ideas for your card designs?
I’m asked these questions – and others that are similar to them – all the time.
Sometimes, I find inspiration in the most unexpected places…
A Recent Experience
At the time that I’m writing this blog post, one of my daughters is expecting a baby. Any time now. But that’s another post for another day.
Some time back, a friend was discussing a possible gift for my daughter. Said said, “Every baby should have a white blanket.” Needless to say, that’s why she made for my daughter. But her statement has stuck in my mind.
Then a month ago, I was working on a card for a friend’s baby shower. I started design after design. Changing stamp sets. Changing color schemes. Changing everything. But nothing worked. I spent several hours over a couple of days working on that card.
However, throughout, in my mind, I kept hearing my friend say, “Every baby should have a white blanket.”
Every baby should have a white blanket.
Inspiration for my Card Design
That simple statement was the inspiration for my card. It started the real design process. Here is my final card. WARNING: This card is made with retired Stampin’ Up! stamp sets. However, the cardstock and ink is all current.
I started with a white card – Basic White Thick card base and only white layers on top. The elephant (from Zoo Babies wood mount stamp set) and the text (from Animal Outing clear mount stamp set) were gray. But it was dull.
So, I added some Highland Heather layers and ink. And the whole thing came together.
So, it was almost an all-white card.
Every baby should have a white blanket
And every baby should have a white – or almost all white – card.
Every baby should have a white blanket. My inspiration for this card design… The simple, clear expression of love from a friend!
