Mixing Both Old and New Products

I often like mixing both old and new products when designing my cards. I love to buy new things, especially stamping supplies. But I can't stop using the old things – they're a source of comfort, I guess! Today's project is one of those types of projects.

I used both my favorite punches and the Pop Up Posies from the next Catalog.

This card started as one that I was going to teach in this month's card class. I wanted to create a strip of "pattern" without stamping or using Designer Series Paper. That's when I decided to use my collection of punches to make the circles. They are all different sizes and of different colors (Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight and Not Quite Navy.) But once I made the flower and the stamped the sentiment (from Vintage Verses, a Sale-A-Bration set), I found the circles to be too bold. Enter Vellum card stock.

When I first started designing cards, vellum was one of my staples. It made my card and invitation designs so much softer. Then, as I moved into other types of card designs, I stopped using it. However, in this case, I think it adds softness to the card, without making it particularly feminine. What do you think?

Well, this card never made it to the card class collection. I decided to use the same layout – but with different colors and different products. In fact, nothing remained the same! That's the fun of the creative journey! I start with one design and then start swapping elements in and out. Before long, I have a totally different card design! Do you ever do that? Leave a comment below and let me know! But for today, I started by mixing both old and new products!
