How to Make a Simple, yet Elegant Birthday Card

With the stack – and I mean really high stack – of hand stamped cards in my stash, it’s difficult to explain why I’m always low on birthday cards. Maybe it’s because my daughters keep sending them to their friends – LOL! In any case, I need to re-build my stash of birthday cards. And fast. But I want each one to be special. So, today I’m exploring how to make a simple, yet elegant, birthday card! Take a look.

Simple, yet elegant, birthday card - http://stampedimpression.comWhy do I consider this card design to be elegant? After all, the fonts in the sentiment and the stamped flowers are anything but formal. It’s hardly a look I’d initially call “elegant.”

It’s my choice of color that makes the overall look elegant – Black, White and Gold. Love it!

The stamped images – both sentiment and flowers – are from Cottage Greetings. This set has become a go-to set for me. Lots of good, favorite greetings. Clean lines. Flowers. Pretty much everything I like on my cards!

Important Notice: I also used the Winter Wonderland Designer Washi Tape. Have you tried it yet? So special. The only bad thing about this Washi Tape is that it is RETIRING on January 4. Or when they run out. Whichever is first. I don’t usually become attached to Washi Tape, but this set is so great. I’m going to miss it. Be sure to stock up before it’s too late.

Here’s my trick: I cut two Basic Black rectangles, 1/2″ shorter and 1/2″ narrower than the top black mat. I used SNAIL Adhesive and glued these beneath. The effect is that it raised the mat just a smidge. But not a lot. What do you think? Have you ever done this? I feel like I invented this trick. Maybe I should patent it! Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

I also added a tiny pearl to the center of the flower just above the sentiment. It’s not an obvious embelliishment. But it certainly adds a touch of class. Just one more way to make an ordinary design simply elegant!

Anyway, with the added touches I describe above, this card comes together quickly. So quickly, I’m sure that you’ll try to make a simple, yet elegant birthday card!

  1. Love this card! Great color combination and are those little teeny flowers just adorable??!! Plus a totally original layering technique?? Woo hoo!

    1. Thank you1

I’d love to say that I’m totally creative, but the “new” technique came about by accident. I saw some card stock sitting on my table, elevated by some smaller pieces. I’m not sure how I made the leap to my card. It must have taken a few iterations!
