How to Design a Special Birthday Card

Many of you now know that I’m part of the #imbringingbirthdaysback campaign. As part of that campaign, I create simple cards that have a WOW factor.

But sometimes, you need something a little extra special! That’s what I face every April, because it’s my daughters’ birthday. I looked at what I designed last year. That’s when I realized that I never showed you the cards I gave them.  Although, I shared the first step in my design journey. You can see that blog post here.

Here is the card I designed for one daughter:

What makes these cards so special?

The 4-1-1

  • I stamped and sponged and die cut images – These cards were made with the Crazy About You bundle, which includes stamps and die-cuts. Not only are the images cute, you save 15% when you purchase them as a bundle!
  • I used lots of layers – In general, the more layers of card stock and paper that you use, the richer the design. At least in my humble opinion.
  • I lined the envelope with Designer Series Paper – even a boring envelope ends up being special with that extra touch.

Of course, the most special part is that they were made for my favorite daughters!!

So, what should I do this year? What do you think I should include in this year’s card designs? Leave a comment and let me know!
