Another Easy Masculine Card

I find that many of us struggle when designing cards for men. Do you? Well, here’s a masculine card that’s real easy to make.

The “tool” that makes this design come to life so easily is the *bundle*. This is part of the Occasions catalog offering. It includes both the Adventure Awaits stamp set and coordinating Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Pack. Of course you can buy these 2 items separately. But when you bundle them, you save 15%.

Swap out the patterned paper and you have a totally different card. Can’t get much easier than that! Here are some tips to help.

The 4-1-1

  • Coordinate color of DSP with card stock – I picked a wood grain patterned paper. When I looked at it, I picked Basic Gray (for the card base) and Basic Black (for the mat under the DSP). I could have just as easily picked Crumb Cake and Basic Black. Or even Crumb Cake and Soft Suede. The colors don’t need to be the same. They just need to coordinate.
  • Use Vellum Card Stock to soften the paper pattern under the stamped image and sentiment. – This makes the stamping stands out!
  • Heat Emboss the stamped image – I love the sentiment “The Adventure Begins.” Perfect for a birthday, graduation, new job, or even retirement! To make it most visible, I heat embossed the sentiment. Makes a nice effect, I believe.

Who says ribbon is just for women? A strand of Basic Black 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon along the bottom of the Vellum card stock adds a nice finishing touch. A bow would have been too much. And since this card is flat, you can mail it without additional postage!

Pick patterned paper to suit the personality of the recipient. Other patterns in the pack include water, rocks, trees. Even just geometric patterns. Love this paper!

One last tip. How did I attach the vellum without letting the adhesive show? When I cut the vellum card stock, I cut it about an inch wider than the paper layer below it. I scored lines on either side, and folded on the scored lines, wrapping the vellum around the paper. Then I secured it on the back with regular tape. Clever!
