Today I used the Ornamental Pine stamp set from the Holiday catalog to create my easy elegant Christmas card design. Take a look.
When using Ornamental Pine, I typically stamp the branches and needles in a dark green like Always Artichoke and the cones in a dark brown like Early Espresso. This card is monochromatic. That means I stuck to one color, in varying shades.
Yet, the card is not boring. At least I don’t think so. Nor does it look like the tree is dead. At this point, I almost wish that I used this for my Christmas cards this year.
How did I achieve this elegant design? Here are some hints.
The 4-1-1
- Monochromatic neutral coloring – If I chose purples or blues it could be just as beautiful However, it wouldn’t be so sophisticated.
- Few layers – I love to layer. But the stamped images are large. If I added more layers of card stock, I would need to reduce the area where the stamping is done. Everything would be more crowded and busy.
- Subtle embellishment – the only thing I added was some Dazzling Details to the branches and pine cone. Perfect.
Sometimes less is more. Today’s project is an example of that. It’s truly an easy elegant card design!
