I love to use lots of layers on my cards. Flat layers, but lots of them. Today’s project is made with one of the new stamp sets in the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog, You’ve Got This. Lots of layers work perfectly with the design.
One of the nicest features of this stamp set is that it contains all the stamps you need to make a card – the background, the feature image and the sentiment. In addition, the feature image is a flower! That’s perfection for me!! All this makes it ever so easy to design you card.
I worked primarily with Mint Macaron, my favorite new In Color, and Whisper White. Thin Basic Black mats were added for POP. While I tend to stay with few colors on my cards, I added Pear Pizzazz to the feature flower.
The main design feature, however, is the layers. This card has 4 full layers of card stock on the black card base. All the black features are very narrow. I have 2 black mats. Then I stamped the flower and sentiment in black. Everything black is narrow!
Remember: repetition makes your design cohesive.
I didn’t add a white layer to the inside of the card yet. But you can’t write on the inside without it. So, I guess I’ll add it as soon as I post this project.
One last point. Usually, I usually color in my flowers when I stamp them in black like this one. I tried just outlining the petals, as I had seen this done by one of my stamping sidelines. It looks “okay” but I think I’d prefer to see the petals filled in.
What do you think? Leave a comment and let me know.
Then, the next time you work on a card design, try adding a couple of narrow mats. Examine the impact on the card!
