Today’s project shows one way of working with Designer Series Paper (DSP). That’s the patterned paper by Stampin’ Up!
I love working with DSP. It takes so much work out of a card design. Here are 3 of the top ways:
- Reduces some stamping – faster and easier to make a card
- Aids in color selection – use some/all the colors on the DSP for your card
- Keeps weight down – good for cards that you mail via USPS
PLUS, select packets of DSP from the annual catalog are on sale this month. Click here to download the list of sale items.
Card Design with DSP
Ooops. I haven’t shown you a project. Here’s a card I made last weekend. Definitely one of my favorite ones from my recent time in my craft room:
The bundle that I used here is the Latte Love bundle, which includes the stamp set and dies. The ribbon, Natural 3/8″ Polka Dot Trim, was also used. I love it, don’t you?
However, I chose different Designer Series Paper than the one that comes in the collection. I used Country Woods 12″x12″ Designer Series Paper. I love the shabby chic look. Perfect for, but not limited to, masculine cards!
The 4-1-1
Here are some design options I used to create this card:
- How many paper designs? – Note that while I used 2 different paper designs, you could choose just 1 or 4 different designs. It depends on the final look you’re trying to achieve. (By the way, it’s difficult to see in the second photo, but I added a strip of DSP to the inside of the card!
- Second die-cut circle – Did you notice the second die-cut circle, just a little behind the one with stamping? That little “shadow” helped separate the focal image (i.e. the coffee cup and sentiment) from the background. Can you see that?
- Shading of the cup – Do you like the shading of the cup and the coffee in it? I used Stampin’ Blends to achieve that. I know that some people won’t color stamped images, because “it’s too hard to do” well. Trust me. There is nothing that you can do to mess up the coloring. 😀
More Working with Designer Series Paper
Are you interested in learning more about working with Designer Series Paper? One way is to sign up for my e-newsletter. The sign up is at the top of the right hand column. No cost or obligation. But most issues contain a project, where I explore using Stampin’ Up! products. Tips are part of it. In fact, tomorrow’s newsletter will contain another card design using different Designer Series Paper. But it goes out in tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM Central Time (i.e. 9:30 AM Eastern Time, 6:30 AM Pacific Time). So you need to be on my mailing list by then.
See you in the morning where, once again, I’ll be working with Designer Series Paper!
