Did you realize that you can use Washi Tape for background on your cards? It’s so easy. Just attach each strip right next to another one. Check out today’s project.
Look! I used the See Ya Later stamp set from Sale-A-Bration. That’s no surprise. I love this set and you can earn it for free!
The 3 colored strips along the bottom of the card were created with pieces of Washi Tape, specifically, the Retro Fresh This and that Designer Washi Tape from the Occasions catalog. It’s easier to apply that card stock and it adds way less bulk than card stock.
The colors of the card were taken directly from the stripes Washi tape – I chose Coastal Cabana, Tangerine Tango and So Saffron. I never would have even thought of putting those colors together, if I had not seen them on the Washi Tape first!
The funny thing about this card is that the photo has THREE Candy Dots in the lower left corner. My actual card has only TWO Candy Dots. There is a rogue Candy Dot somewhere on my craft room floor :/
The 411…
- Feel free to combine different shapes of Framelits. Today I stamped the sentiment on the So Saffron cut in a Deco Labels Collection Framelit Die and mounted it on Coastal Cabana cut in an Ovals Collection Framelit Die. This is much more interesting than nesting 2 shapes that are the same.
- While the Washi Tape looks great on the card, it’s very “flat”. That’s why I popped both the sentiment and the oval mat with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Popping only one layer was not enough.
- Sometimes it’s difficult to butt one strip of Washi Tape exactly against another. If you look closely, I left every so slight a space between strips of Washi Tape. As long at the background matches one of the colors on the tape, it’s looks fine!
One last point… There are lots of designs on this card, each next to another. But since they are all in similarly shaped spaces (i.e. strips along the bottom), they are easy on the eyes. Using pattern elsewhere on the card would have been too much!
This card was SO easy to make, thanks, to the Washi Tape. It makes good sense – and good design – to use Washi Tape for background on your card!
