Now that the holidays are over, it’s time again to focus on other special events. That’s why I’m saying Happy Birthday with Snowflake Wishes!
We say goodbye to the Snowflake Wishes stamp set and the corresponding So Many Snowflakes dies on January 4. (That’s the last day to shop from the August-December mini catalog. Fortunately, this stamp set and dies will be back in the next annual catalog. However, for the next 5 months, we’ll be without these gorgeous snowflakes on the sales shelves.
Why Use Snowflakes on a Birthday Card?
Why did I make this card? Sometimes I get caught up in the primary purpose of the catalog. When items appear in the traditional holiday catalog, then I think Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. Maybe holiday decorations aren’t obviously versatile. But snowflakes certainly are! Besides, how many of us want to stamp roses on a birthday card in December?!?! Okay. I admit that I’ve done this. But always for a good reason.
Anyway, that’s why I made this specific card. For a winter birthday. Or a snow lover. Or both!
By the way, change only the sentiments and you can make this a Thank You card, too!
My Color Selection for Snowflake Wishes Birthday
Why did I use these colors? If you don’t know, then you probably didn’t see my Stamped Impression posts on Facebook or Instagram on Saturday. I showed a photo of my magnolia shrub, right after a snowfall-rainfall-ice storm. I used the colors of that view as my starting point. (In the interest of total transparency, the posts have a filter on them.)
The colors I chose to work with are Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, and Seaside Spray. I also used Silver Foil for some of the snowflakes. What do you think?
The 4-1-1
- Glitter & shine – Besides using Silver Foil, adding Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the center of each snowflake and Wink of Stella on the dark gray (beneath the blue die cut) adds winter sparkle to my design.
- Pop up design – I used Stampin’ Dimensionals under the blue die cut layer, adding dimension to the overall design. Always a good thing to do!
- Being frugal – It doesn’t happen often, but I can use my products AND keep my costs down. Today, I die cut the sentiment from the discarded portion of the blue cardstock. Do you ever do that? (I think about it, but usually forget to do it LOL!)
Other Notes about Snowflake Birthday Wishes
I love to stamp on the inside of the card. Makes it feel more “finished” to me. Today I added a sentiment and snowflakes to the inside of the card. I didn’t take a photo yet, but I added snowflakes to the flap of the envelope. So much more special than on a store-bought card!
In Conclusion
When it comes to designing cards with snowflakes, please don’t limit yourself to Christmas and other winter holidays. Trust me. Everyone loves snowflakes… as long as they don’t need to shovel them.
What about you? Do you use snowflakes on cards other than those for Christmas? Leave a comment and let us know!
