I’m often asked where I find inspiration for my card and other project design. I find inspiration everywhere. But, when I’m in a funk, I look to my old projects. You can do this, too. Here is an example of how to find inspiration in your own card designs!
I made this card a few years ago. I love it. I love the stamp set, the colors, the mood. But many of the products here are retired.
I wanted to make a masculine card, as many of my readers are always asking for ideas. But I was feeling kind of stale. You know what I mean. Everything I tried looked the same. B-o-r-i-n-g. What to do? So, I looked through some of my older designs and found this card.
I immediately set out to re-do it. Here is what I came up with at the end of my exercise!
I started with a neutral color base – Smokey Slate. Then I added another color – Midnight Muse – for interest.
Then I remembered the Clockworks stamp set. It even resembles the one I used before. I stamped and sponged and punched out shapes. (Okay, I admit that I cut out the pocket watch body with my Paper Snips.) I added a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes and a frame from Four Frames. Of course, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals throughout, to help particular pieces stand out.
Finally, I added some ribbon! (Who says you can’t use ribbon on a masculine card?! I used some Midnight Muse 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon, fraying one end of it. Perfect!
In fact, this card was so perfect, I decided to give it to my husband on his birthday last week! This is probably my favorite card I made in weeks. And I found my inspiration in my own card design. You can, too! Try it and let me know how you make out by leaving a comment on this blog post.
