Eggplant and Gold – a Rich Combination

Eggplant and gold – a rich combination. So beautiful, I can’t believe I forgot to post a photo of this card. I had planned to show it on March 4 – Mardi Gras! However, I just love these colors together. So, here it is on March 31!

Eggplant and Gold - a rich combinationA second thing that makes this card so special is that I used some Sale-A-Bration freebies! Did you notice these in your brochure? Today is the LAST DAY you can earn FREE Sale-A-Bration products. Time to order. Don’t delay.

For this card design, I started with the colors. The card base is Elegant Eggplant. The gold comes from different products in the Occasions Catalog: Gold Foil Sheets, Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum, and Gold Sequin Trim. I LOVE the gold sheen!

I ran the card base through the Big Shot die-cutting machine with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, another Sale-A-Bration freebie! I think the fun design of this embossing folder makes it my all-time favorite Sale-A-Bration item!

When I layered the vellum on the eggplant, I “hid” Glue Dots under the gold circles. I don’t like seeing adhesive through the vellum, so I’m always looking to hide it. The gold circles make the perfect hiding places!

The 411…

  • Combine different shapes of die cuts and punches. The sentiment is on a circle, on Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies.
  • Make the foil layers stand out. Even though the gold has sheen, the pieces on the card can appear “flat”. I usually use Stampin’ Dimensionals on and under gold foil layers for this reason.
  • Secure the strand of sequins with regular tape on the back of the card stock layer. Nothing else will hold it as well.

Mardi Gras may be over, but Sale-A-Bration is here for only one more day. Celebrate with Eggplant and Gold – a rich combination!
