Either you love it or you hate it. Designer Series Paper, that is. I don’t use it nearly enough. But patterned paper has its benefits. Today I use Designer Series Paper for an easy background on my card design. Take a look.
The paper is all part of the Back to Black Designer Series Paper. Love it.
I arranged the strips of paper in an ombre way, “darkest” to “lightest”, from left to right. There is no hard-and-fast rule to decide which of those designs should be #2 and #3. However, I swapped the strips around until I arrived at this one. I like this arrangement!
You can take a little peek at the inside. I actually glued a piece of Whisper White card stock on the inside, so that you can write a note – it’s tough to write on black! To make a cohesive design, I added a strip of Designer Series Paper there, too. But only one strip. Otherwise, where would I write a note?
To make the strips more distinct, I used lots of layers of mats. The strips are on Basic Black card stock, which is on Smoky Slate card stock, which is on the Basic Black card base!
With the background so busy, it’s easy for the sentiment to get lost. So I used a contrasting color, namely Tangelo Twist. However, I used lots of white space, so that your eyes have a place to rest. That’s so important in card design. If your eye must move constantly, the result is chaotic and un-fun. What’s the point in that?
I forgot to mention that the sentiment is from Bravo, the coolest Photopolymer stamp set in the annual catalog!
By the way, even though some of the Designer Series Paper has flowers on it. you can still send this card to a man. Imagine that. A masculine card with flowers!
So, next time you’re stuck on your card design, try using Designer Series Paper for an Easy Background.
