Beautiful Hand Stamped Birthday Card

Who can’t use a Beautiful Hand Stamped Birthday Card in their stash of handmade cards? I know that I always need one. In fact, I just mailed one today.

However, when I went to pull one out, I found that I didn’t have any birthday cards left in my stash of cards. So, when I designed this one, I made 2 more just like it. Happy dance!

The 4-1-1

  • 3-Step stamping – The thing I love the most about this stamp set is the way that the flowers NEVER look the same twice. Although the flower is meant to be a 2-step stamping image, I really stamp 3 times. I stamp the “fuller” image twice, rotating the stamp 30 to 90 degrees between stamping. Then I add the darker “smaller” image. I’m always rotating the stamps. You’ll never see it in the same position twice on a card of mine!
  • Use Contrasting Colors -Although I started with a monochromatic color scheme – different shades of blue-ish green, plus the neutrals, I added some Blackberry Bliss. I find it makes the main colors appear richer.
  • Add Layers – When I started hand stamping cards, I was told that the rule of thumb is that every card should have a minimum of 6 layers. I’m not sure how strict this rule truly is. But I find that it makes sense. This card has 7 layers of cardstock, plus the ink on 2 layers. I find the design is rich and full. However, every stamped image has its surrounding “white space”, allowing it to claim its importance. And the white space gives your eyes a place to rest while it moves over the card!

How I Designed this Card

I started with the stamp set. As I explained earlier, I really like this stamp set.

Then I worked on the colors. I was all set to use only Tranquil Tide and Mint Macaron, with Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla. But then I noticed the Blackberry Bliss on my work table. I simply had to add a little of it to the card design!

The Final Special Touches

I added a stamped flower to the inside of the card, as you can see from the second photo.

Finally, the card was stamped and assembled. All looked good. But then I added Wink of Stella to the flowers. That shimmer was an especially beautiful finishing touch.

And that is how you make a beautiful hand stamped birthday card!

Copy this card. Or make a similar one. Then let me know how you did!
