A CASEd design. We see the term CASE all over the place in the stamping community. What does it mean? Is it useful to CASE?
What is a CASEd Design?
This acronym has a few different names. The most common name is Copy And Share Everything. While a powerful process, never use it without responsibility. Here is my CASEd project. It comes from page 112 in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.
CASE means to look at another person’s design and take something from it to make it your own. When you CASE a project, you may copy the layout or the the colors or the technique. You start with some elements of the original and adapt it to your own. You don’t copy the project exactly.
Finally, when you CASE a design, you should always give credit to the person or organization that inspired you. It’s the decent thing to do.
I especially like the layout of this card in the Annual Catalog. I like the background image flowing from top left to lower right – my favorite direction, as its the natural direction of our eyes over text. I also like the feel of the colors. However, I adapted these elements to create my own card.
I used a different stamp set. I kept the Crumb Cake and light green, but I changed the specific green. And I used Basic Black instead of a shade of brown. I already explained the background images flowing diagonally across the card front.
If you want to see another example of where I started with a design and CASEd it, then check out this post. In CASEd my own card design. It’s one of my favorite things to do, as I get double the benefit from working in my craft room!
Another Important Factor
There is one more important item about this card. I bought the stamp set (Tea Together) and earned the dies (Tea Time) for free, way back in February, during Sale-A-Bration. But I broke my most important Rule: Never buy a stamping product that I don’t use. This is the first time I created a card with any of the stamps or dies. Shame on me. However, I fixed that situation today! 😀
Feel Free to CASE My Card
Here is my challenge to you. CASE this card. Design a card of your own, taking some elements from my card. Then share your design in my comments to this blog post. I’d love to see them! And have a good time with it!
