I recently found this interesting article on the MSN web site, called 6 Outrageously Overpriced Products. It talked about paying too much money for things like popcorn at the movies and bottled water. But the Number 2 item on the list was store-bought cards!
It surprised me at first. After all, I spend … on average … $1 to $3 on a hand-made card. (The amount of materials I use depends on how much I like the person!) Store-bought cards can sometimes be cheaper than the ones I make, although not often. (Okay, I admit that I haven't bought a card since 2001.) However, the cards I make have many important advantages,
First of all, I choose the style and colors to fit the recipient. I'm not limited to what I find on the store shelves. I don't send a card with a goofy picture of a dog or an old barn. Or a cartoon person that resembles no one I know. And the message on my handmade card is also chosen specifically for the recipient. You won't find my card on the mantlepiece of 2 million homes in America.
Most importantly, my handmade cards contain a piece of me. I put my time, affection and creativity into each one. How much is that worth?
Think about that the next time you are working on a card for someone. It will give you an even more special feeling. I guarantee it!
Until next time,
Happy stamping – really!

You are soooo ahead of the times! This was on the news yesterday morning! I made a card for my niece’s shower that I was really happy with and her 16 year old half-sister remarked, “oooh, that’s a pretty card”! My niece agreed! She didn’t say that about any of the others, which, incidentally, were not handmade and therefore, overpriced! I think I’ll keep going for that “oooh” factor!
