Yesterday I showed a project of a card I particularly like. What I didn’t share is that I was working on a birthday card for my sister. While I liked that card, I don’t want to send it to her. First of all, the knot in the organza ribbon and the large pearl are too bulky to ravel via the mail. Also, I wanted the card to have a little more “fuss”. After all, it’s for my Big Sister, whom I’ve always admired. She deserves a special card.
So, that’s when I started to modify it. I can show you a little sneak peek, but that’s all. Her birthday is this weekend. I don’t want her to see the card, until it arrives in person! Here it is.
This is a clear example of how one good design inspiration leads to another!
I used the same colors. In fact, I even used them in the same proportions: Pool Party and Marina Mist, with a little Cherry Cobbler for POP!
I chose different stamp sets. You know how that goes. Once I started to swap elements in and out, I naturally tried different stamped images 🙂
But check this out. Obviously, I used the Flower Shop stamp set, with the matching Pansy Punch. I ran the cherry card stock through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The bulky Pearl is gone, replaced by a Candy Dot.
But what other changes did I make?
And, not to let the “cat out of the bag”… some of the inspiration came from a totally different design we’re going to make at March Card Class! Inspiration comes from everything around us, including our own creations!
I know that is sounds odd that I can inspire myself. It’s not ego talking. It’s really just part of the creative journey. You start with a card. Add to it. Change up some things. Maybe take away some stuff. Continue on this way, until you are happy with the final design. Or even happy with several designs along the way.
Come back next Monday and have a look!
Clearly, one good design inspiration leads to another!
